Fillings and Inlays

For larger fillings, the restoration of the mastication function and the contact area of the teeth can be only followed by means of dental inlays.

As the name implies, a dental inlay is also known as an indirect filling. After the decayed tooth has been removed, an impression of the tooth will be created. The dental technician can, thus, restore the function, the bite and the aesthetics in the laboratory. Inlays are either made of gold or ceramics whereas those made of plastic are less commonplace today. This is mainly due to the fact that the abrasion of the material during the chewing process is too large. Furthermore, the treatment process is more time-consuming than ceramic inlays.

You can distinguish between the following inlays:

Ceramic inlays     Gold inlays     Plastic inlays

Unlike conventional fillings, an inlay requires at least two sessions with the dentist to complete the treatment. First, the affected tooth is abraded and cleaned. Afterwards, model of the tooth is sent to the laboratory where a dental technician creates final dental inlays. During the second appointment, the inlay will be placed onto the remaining tooth. For an aesthetic and functional restoration of the tooth, private dentist in Munich will position the new inlays with extreme precision.

Ceramic inlays

Ceramic inlays are an aesthetic alternative to the natural teeth. They resimble the color of the normal tooth. Furthermore, due to their high biocompatibility they hardly transmit any heat.

Gold inlays

Gold inlays have been produced for many years now and are known for their long durability. When considering this type of inlays one should be ready to make compromises. Since gold inlays are distinguishable from the natural tooth they usually used in the posterior region.

Fillings

Compared to the amalgam filling (gray silver alloy), the cost of plastic fillings (also called composite) is considerably greater. For smaller fillings, composite is certainly a very good option. With larger fillings, however, the long term effects show that the wear on the opposing jaw during the chewing load is too large. In this case, inlays are the most appropriate long-term alternative.
